SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the Board of education to rename james campbell high school's softball field as the loke huddy softball field.

 

 


     WHEREAS, Aunty Loke Huddy has contributed significantly to the betterment of the Ewa Beach community and the athletics program of Campbell High School; and

 

     WHEREAS, Aunty Loke's participation dates back to the late 1960s, when she began assisting her husband, Trask Huddy, in coaching the track and field, volleyball, and junior varsity girls basketball teams; and

 

     WHEREAS, Aunty Loke was the first head coach of Campbell High School's softball team, which was established in 1976, and was the first female head coach at Campbell High School; and

 

     WHEREAS, Aunty Loke served as head coach for Campbell High School softball into the 1990s, and continued to assist Campbell High School's athletics program in various capacities after stepping down from that role; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the early 2000s, Aunty Loke coached the running back position for Campbell High School's football team; and

 

     WHEREAS, as a testament to her skill and diverse coaching talents, Aunty Loke helped Campbell High School's softball team win three Oahu Interscholastic Association titles and four Oahu Interscholastic Association West Division titles; and

 

     WHEREAS, in honor of her thirty-plus years of service to Campbell High School's athletics program, Aunty Loke was recognized with two Coach of the Year awards, two Oahu Interscholastic Association Outstanding Service awards, and a Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association award; and

 

     WHEREAS, as a beloved community member, Aunty Loke was given the honor of being named Grand Marshall in an Ewa Beach Christmas Parade; and

 

     WHEREAS, Aunty Loke continues to enthusiastically support Campbell High School's athletics program as an avid attendee of games, helping to run the game clock, keep score, and officiate at games; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the broader community, Aunty Loke has volunteered with, coached, and officiated for community sports leagues such as Bobby Sox, Little League, and Pop Warner Football, and has also assisted the Kaimiloa Elementary School athletics program; and

 

     WHEREAS, beyond athletics, Aunty Loke has served in neighborhood watch programs, helped with community cleanup days, and demonstrated caring and compassion by providing nutritious meals to fellow community members during times of need; and

 

     WHEREAS, a person whose significant contributions have positively impacted the Ewa Beach community should be appropriately honored with a lasting reminder of her dedication; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, that the Board of Education is requested to rename James Campbell High School's softball field as the Loke Huddy Softball Field, in recognition of Aunty Loke's accomplishments and contributions to James Campbell High School's athletics programs; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, and Principal of James Campbell High School.
