H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 149.5, Code 2023, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 149.5 Amputations —— anesthesia —— prescription drugs —— 3 immunizations and vaccines . 4 1. A license to practice podiatry shall not authorize the 5 licensee to amputate the human foot. 6 2. A licensed podiatric physician may do all of the 7 following: 8 a. Administer local anesthesia. 9 b. Administer conscious sedation in a hospital or an 10 ambulatory surgical center. 11 c. Prescribe and administer drugs for the treatment of human 12 foot ailments as provided in section 149.1 . 13 d. Order, prescribe, or administer an immunization or 14 vaccine pursuant to protocols developed by the board in 15 consultation with the department of health and human services. 16 A licensed podiatric physician may order, prescribe, or 17 administer epinephrine when medically indicated for an 18 anaphylactic adverse reaction to the administered immunization 19 or vaccine. 20 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of immediate 21 importance, takes effect upon enactment. 22 EXPLANATION 23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 25 This bill provides that a podiatric physician may 26 order, prescribe, or administer an immunization or vaccine 27 pursuant to protocols developed by the board of podiatry in 28 consultation with the department of health and human services. 29 Additionally, the bill authorizes a licensed podiatric 30 physician to order, prescribe, or administer epinephrine when 31 medically indicated for an anaphylactic adverse reaction to the 32 administered immunization or vaccine.
