AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF UNION COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15.00 FOR EACH CIVIL CASE FILED AND EACH CONVICTION OBTAINED IN THE COUNTY'S JUSTICE COURT; TO PROVIDE THAT THE ASSESSMENTS SHALL BE IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS; TO REQUIRE SUCH ASSESSMENTS BE PLACED IN A SPECIAL COUNTY FUND DESIGNATED AS THE "UNION COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER MAINTENANCE FUND"; TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH FUND SHALL BE EXPENDED ON THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CENTER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Union County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) per case, for each civil case filed in any justice court of Union County and for each misdemeanor conviction obtained in any justice court of the county.

     (2)  The avails of the additional assessments levied under subsection (1) of this section shall be placed in a special fund of Union County designated as the "Union County Law Enforcement Center Maintenance Fund" and shall be expended by the board of supervisors to fund the maintenance of such center in the county.

     (3)  This section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2028.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
