A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE EMPLOYEES OF ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI ON PROVIDING 10 YEARS OF HISTORICALLY LOW COST ELECTRICITY TO RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI UPON ITS CELEBRATE 10 EVENT COMMEMORATING THIS ACHIEVEMENT.
WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi serves approximately 451,000 homes and businesses in 45 of Mississippi's 82 counties; and
WHEREAS, Entergy companies employ almost 2,500 people in the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, in their commitment to provide affordable power to customers, has seen 10 consecutive years of historically low rates well below the state and national average; and
WHEREAS, currently, Entergy Mississippi's average residential rates are approximately 24% below the United States average; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Entergy Mississippi had the second lowest rates out of all investor-owned utilities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, these low rates not only lower customer bills, they particularly help low-income families and give Mississippi an edge in recruiting new industry and jobs; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi's Governor, Legislature, Public Service Commission and Public Utilities Staff, have also made sound policy decisions to help Entergy Mississippi keep energy affordable; and
WHEREAS, in order to keep power bills low, Entergy Mississippi is investing in new technologies, improving infrastructure and creating innovative new products and services for its customers; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of Entergy Mississippi are not only committed to providing affordable power but are also nationally recognized as one of "America's Most Responsible Companies," "Top Utilities in Economic Development," "Best Companies for Diversity" and named to the United States Chamber of Commerce "Corporate Citizenship Hall of Fame":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the employees of Entergy Mississippi on providing 10 years of historically low cost electricity to residents and businesses of the State of Mississippi, upon its Celebrate 10 Event commemorating this achievement and extend best wishes to this leading corporate citizen on this great accomplishment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Entergy Mississippi leadership and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
