BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, Ice cream has been a favorite dessert for Ohioans | 3 |
for decades. Every possible flavor has been made and tasted; and | 4 |
WHEREAS, Ohio has one of the best ice cream manufacturers in | 5 |
the world in Utica, the Velvet Ice Cream Company. Velvet has been | 6 |
producing quality ice cream in Utica since its founding in 1914; | 7 |
and | 8 |
WHEREAS, Velvet has more than 500 flavors and produces one of | 9 |
the most popular vanilla ice creams in the country. Ye Olde Mill, | 10 |
an old gristmill that houses the Velvet factory and headquarters, | 11 |
a restaurant, and an ice cream museum, attracts more than 150,000 | 12 |
visitors each year; and | 13 |
WHEREAS, For thirty-five years, during each Memorial Day | 14 |
weekend, Velvet has sponsored and hosted the Ohio Old Fashioned | 15 |
Ice Cream Festival, a fundraiser for local charity that includes | 16 |
such activities as an ice cream eating contest and balloon toss; | 17 |
now therefore be it | 18 |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of | 19 |
Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of the State of | 20 |
Ohio, recognize Utica, the home of Velvet Ice Cream, as the Ice | 21 |
Cream Capital of Ohio; and be it further | 22 |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives send | 23 |
duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Velvet Ice | 24 |
Cream Company and the news media of Ohio. | 25 |
