R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dorothy Grace Turner Jenkins of Kerrville is
  celebrating her 90th birthday on July 1, 2011, and this milestone is
  indeed deserving of special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1921 in her grandmother's home in Luling,
  Dorothy Grace Turner moved with her family to Seguin a year later;
  she attended The University of Texas, where she majored in music and
  joined the Chi Omega sorority; and
         WHEREAS, Dorothy Grace Turner moved to Houston in the early
  1940s, and after college she returned there to work;  she was
  singing in the choir at First Methodist Church when she met Kenneth
  Allen Jenkins, the son of her choir director and the man who would
  become her life partner; the two were joined in matrimony on April
  17, 1941, and they shared 55 rewarding years together, until Mr.
  Jenkins's passing in 1996; the couple became the proud parents of
  two daughters, Catherine Vivien Jenkins Comiskey and Patricia Grace
  Jenkins Jones, and today Mrs. Jenkins's family also includes five
  grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has always played an active role
  in her community; while living in Houston, she was involved in
  P.E.O., an organization that promotes educational opportunities
  for women, and in another important philanthropic group, the Blue
  Bird Circle; she was also active in the Chi Omega alumni chapter and
  in First Methodist Church; following her family's move to McAllen,
  she became a valued member of that community's First United
  Methodist Church, joined the McAllen Country Club, where she
  enjoyed playing tennis, and continued to be involved with P.E.O.
  and the Chi Omega alumni; since relocating to Kerrville in 2002, she
  has affiliated with the First United Methodist Church there,
  remained involved with other alumni of her sorority, and joined the
  Riverhills Country Club; in addition, she still enjoys a good game
  of bridge; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
  Dorothy Grace Jenkins is a source of joy and inspiration to all who
  have the great privilege of knowing her and sharing in the richness
  of her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Dorothy Grace
  Turner Jenkins on the occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Jenkins as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
