AN ACT

 

Establishing the Arizona health task force.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Arizona health task force; membership; duties; reports; delayed repeal

A.  The Arizona health task force is established consisting of the following members:

1.  Two members of the house of representatives who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and who are members of different political parties.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

2.  Two members of the senate who are appointed by the president of the senate and who are members of different political parties.  The president of the senate shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

3.  The director of the department of health services or the director's designee.

4.  The director of the Arizona health care cost containment system administration or the director's designee.

5.  The deputy director of the division of behavioral health in the department of health services.

6.  The director of the department of transportation or the director's designee.

7.  The director of the department of education or the director's designee.

8.  The executive director of the Arizona league of cities and towns or the executive director's designee.

9.  The chairperson of the Arizona early childhood development and health board.

10.  Three school district governing board members who have an interest in or who are knowledgeable on the subject of nutrition.  The governor shall appoint these members.

11.  A physician who is licensed pursuant to title 32, chapter 13 or 17, Arizona Revised Statutes, and who specializes in pediatrics.  The governor shall appoint this member.

12.  One representative of an organization that represents the interests of the farmers in this state.  The governor shall appoint this member.

B.  The task force shall:

1.  Examine the relationship between nutrition and disease.

2.  Examine the relationship between dietary and genetic factors and obesity.

3.  Develop recommendations regarding how this state can best meet the nutritional needs of the various communities in this state.

4.  Submit a report of its findings and recommendations on or before November 15 of each year to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.  The first report shall be submitted on or before November 15, 2013.

C.  Task force members are not eligible to receive compensation or reimbursement of expenses.

D.  This section is repealed from and after September 30, 2016.
