An Act

 

amending title 32, chapter 21, article 3, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 32-2240.04; relating to veterinarians.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 32, chapter 21, article 3, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 32-2240.04, to read:

START_STATUTE32-2240.04. Malpractice action; damages

Notwithstanding any other law, if a person prevails in a malpractice action against a veterinarian, the person may receive the following damages for the death of the person's domesticated dog or cat:

1. The fair market value of the domesticated dog or cat.

2. The cost of all medical expenses for the domesticated dog or cat resulting from the malpractice activity.

3. Up to $10,000 for the person's future loss of companionship.END_STATUTE
