INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Smyth

                        FEBRUARY 27, 2009

An act to amend Section 4114 of the Public Resources
Code, relating to forest practices. An act to add
Section 51413 to the Education Code, relating to high school
graduation.

	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 1463, as amended, Smyth. Forest practices: Department
of Forestry and Fire Protection. High school
graduation: military uniforms.
Existing law prescribes the requirements for a pupil to earn a
diploma of graduation from high school, including the completion of a
specified course of study and passage of the high school exit
examination.
This bill would provide that a pupil who has fulfilled all of the
requirements to receive a diploma of graduation from high school
pursuant to state law and has completed the basic training required
for any armed branch of the United States military has the right to
wear the dress uniform issued to him or her by that military branch
while participating in the graduation ceremony for his or her high
school.
Under existing law, the Department of Forestry and Fire
Protection, in accordance with a plan approved by the State Board of
Forestry and Fire Protection, is required to carry out specified
duties with respect to the prevention and control of forest fires.

This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change in that
provision.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
