An act to add Section 51204.7 to amend
Section 51204.5 of the Education Code, relating to pupil
instruction.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 1756, as amended, Knight. Pupil instruction.
instruction: social sciences: California history.
Existing law requires instruction in social sciences to include
the early history of California and a study of the role and
contributions of specified groups of people to the economic,
political, and social development of California and the United States
of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these
groups in contemporary society.
This bill would instead authorize instruction in social sciences
to include the early history of California and a study of the role
and contributions of specified groups of people to the economic,
political, and social development of California and the United States
of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these
groups in contemporary society.
Existing law, commencing January 1, 2012, requires that
instruction in social sciences include a study of the role and
contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans to
the economic, political, and social development of California and
the United States.
This bill would authorize a school district to elect not to
provide this instruction.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
