LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2372, as introduced, Ammiano. Property transfer. Existing law prohibits a vendor or lessor of a single-family residential property from contracting for or exacting any fee in excess of $10 for the act of signing and delivering a document in connection with the transfer, cancellation, or reconveyance of any title or instrument at the time the buyer or lessee exercises an option to buy, or completes performance of the contract for the sale of, the property. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to these provisions. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 1097 of the Civil Code is amended to read: 1097.No vendor(a) A vendor or lessor of asingle familysingle-family residential property shall not contract for or exact any fee in excess of ten dollars ($10) for the act of signing and delivering a document in connection with the transfer, cancellation , or reconveyance of any title or instrument at the time the buyer or lessee exercises an option to buy, or completes performance of the contract for the sale of, the property.The(b) The provisions of this section shall only apply prospectivelyonly.
