   An act to amend Section 53081 of the Education Code, relating to
the School-to-Career Program.

   SB 1358, as introduced, Steinberg. School-to-Career Program.
   Existing law requires the State Department of Education to
administer the School-to-Career Program, and to serve certain roles
with respect to administering the program, including developing or
participating in the development of specified accountability
measurements, awarding grants to eligible qualified applicants,
providing technical and professional assistance to all local
partnerships, consulting and offering advice to partnerships, and
providing an informational link where local partnerships can
collaborate and exchange successful and innovative methods and ideas.

   This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to these
provisions.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 53081 of the Education Code is amended to read:

   53081.  The  State Department of Education  
department  shall administer the School-to-Career Program and
serve the following roles:
   (a) Develop or participate in the development of accountability
measurements specified in paragraph (8) of subdivision (b) of Section
53082 for school-to-career programs to ensure that the goals of the
program are being met.
   (b) Award grants to eligible applicants that meet or exceed the
criteria specified in subdivision (b) of Section 53082.
   (c) Provide technical and professional assistance to all local
partnerships.
   (d) Consult and offer advice to partnerships.
   (e) Provide an informational link where local partnerships can
collaborate and exchange successful and innovative methods and ideas.
