This measure would commemorate the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon.
Fiscal Committee: NO

WHEREAS, The fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, and the culmination of the Vietnam War led to the United States-sponsored evacuation of approximately 125,000 Vietnamese refugees in a first wave and hundreds of thousands more during the two-decade long Indochinese refugee crisis, creating what would become the United States’ sixth largest foreign-born group; and
WHEREAS, Vietnamese immigrants and their United States-born children comprise one of the largest diaspora populations in the United States, at more than 1,800,000 individuals, and a large proportion of the first generation arrived in the aftermath of the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, California is home to 35 percent of the Vietnamese American population, the largest share in the country; and
WHEREAS, California has one of the highest populations of Vietnam veterans in the country, and 5,822 service members from California died or went missing in the conflict; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby commemorates the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon on April 30, 2025; and be it further
