AN ACT REQUIRING BOARDS OF EDUCATION TO CONDUCT ANNUAL TESTING OF PUBLIC SCHOOL WATER SUPPLIES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 169 of the general statutes be amended to require (1) the annual testing for lead in the water supply in each public school, (2) that the cost of such testing shall be split between the local or regional board of education and the appropriate water company, (3) that the water source within each public school be annually rotated, (4) that, upon detection of lead in the water, the local or regional board of education is responsible for remediation, except that the appropriate water company shall be responsible for remediation if the source of the lead is the water supply, and (5) that the Department of Education and the Department of Public Health issue guidelines regarding such testing, and that such guidelines include an educational component for students and their parents regarding the issue of lead in water.
Statement of Purpose:
To require annual testing for lead in public school water supplies.
