SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8
RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR 2023.
WHEREAS, January 22, 2023, begins the celebration of Chinese New Year (also referred to as the Lunar New
Year) and festivities will continue through February 5, 2023, following the lunar cycle; and
WHEREAS, 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac and symbolizes grace, beauty,
mercy, and good luck; and
WHEREAS, the Chinese New Year is a time to reunite with family, recognize traditions, honor ancestors,
celebrate the past year, and invite good luck and prosperity for the coming year; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of Chinese New Year ends with the Lantern Festival, characterized by lion and
dragon dances, parades, fireworks, and colorful lanterns; and
WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is celebrated not just by Chinese people, but is widely observed by many Asian
communities all around the world.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Delaware State Senate hereby adopts this resolution to honor and celebrate the Chinese New Year.
