Florida Senate - 2012 SB 1282 By Senator Richter 37-01089-12 20121282__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to automated external defibrillators; 3 amending s. 401.2915, F.S.; providing for a person or 4 entity to notify the local public safety answering 5 point regarding the location of the defibrillator in 6 its possession; authorizing public safety 7 telecommunicators to contact owners of defibrillators 8 under certain circumstances; providing an effective 9 date. 10 11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 12 13 Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (2) of section 14 401.2915, Florida Statutes, is amended, and paragraph (d) is 15 added to that subsection, to read: 16 401.2915 Automated external defibrillators.—It is the 17 intent of the Legislature that an automated external 18 defibrillator may be used by any person for the purpose of 19 saving the life of another person in cardiac arrest. In order to 20 achieve that goal, the Legislature intends to encourage training 21 in lifesaving first aid and set standards for and encourage the 22 use of automated external defibrillators. 23 (2) In order to promote public health and safety: 24 (b) Any person or entity in possession of an automated 25 external defibrillator is encouraged to notify the local 26 emergency medical services medical director or the local public 27 safety answering point, as defined in s. 365.172(3)(a), of the 28 location of the automated external defibrillator. 29 (d) Notwithstanding s. 365.171(12), a 911 public safety 30 telecommunicator, as defined in s. 401.465, may contact any 31 private person or entity who owns an automated external 32 defibrillator and has notified the local emergency medical 33 services medical director or public safety answering point of 34 such ownership if a confirmed coronary emergency call is taking 35 place and the location of the coronary emergency is within a 36 reasonable distance from the location of the defibrillator, and 37 may provide the location of the coronary emergency to that 38 person or entity. 39 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
