RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Talbotton Baptist Church on the occasion of its 183rd
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the seeds which were sown by the loving and humble efforts of the devoted
original worshipers of Talbotton Baptist Church have blossomed, establishing a
rich tradition and history; and
WHEREAS,
organized in 1829, Talbotton Baptist Church has grown under the divine direction
of numerous pastors over the years, allowing the Word of God to spread
throughout the community; and
WHEREAS,
famous pastors of Talbotton Baptist Church include Mr. James Perryman, the son
of Elisha Perryman; Reverend Charles Harden Stillwell, president of Western
& Atlantic Railroad; Reverend Hiram Powell, grandfather of Women's State
College at Valdosta professor, R.H. Powell, and Judge Arthur Gray Powell; and
Dr. R.J. Willingham, corresponding secretary of the Foreign Missions Board; and
WHEREAS,
notable members of the church have included Mr. John B. Gorman, who served as
the United States Consulate to Mexico; Mr. Henry "Tuck" Person, former Georgia
State Representative and mayor of Talbotton; and Mr. Robert H. Jordan, former
member of the Georgia General Assembly and Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme
Court; and
WHEREAS,
the congregation of this church has compiled an unparalleled record of
constructive, compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates
daily through open minds, open hearts, and open doors; and
WHEREAS,
members of Talbotton Baptist Church have a sincere desire to serve the Lord and
are wholeheartedly committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ;
and
WHEREAS,
on February 19, 2012, Talbotton Baptist Church celebrates its 183rd anniversary
with homecoming events and worship services, inviting all current and former
members, friends, and community associates to celebrate; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for its innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the rich history of Talbotton Baptist Church, commend its
183 years of dedicated service to the Lord and community, and extend their
warmest best wishes for its continued growth and success.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Talbotton
Baptist Church.
