A RESOLUTION


Urging the United States Congress to fund fully the Resource Conservation and Development Program; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Resource Conservation and Development Program is funded in the Natural Resources Conservation Service budget of the United States Department of Agriculture; and

WHEREAS, this program establishes resource conservation and development councils which are the leadership of locally led initiatives; and

WHEREAS, members of the councils are volunteers and include local, civil, appointed, and elected officials; and

WHEREAS, the councils are nonprofit entities which address otherwise unmet needs in local communities; and

WHEREAS, the fiscal year 2010 proposed administration budget eliminates the Resource Conservation and Development Program; and

WHEREAS, the members of this body recognize the invaluable service provided by resource conservation and development councils and the important role they play in rural and urban development as well as natural resource conservation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of his body urge the United States Congress to support full funding of the Resource Conservation Development Program in the 2010 fiscal year budget and each fiscal year budget thereafter so that the vital services of the Resource Conservation and Development Program will continue.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to each member of the Georgia congressional delegation.
