RESOLUTION
Honoring
and commending Kukkiwon, the world headquarters of Taekwondo, and proclaiming
October 1, 2011, as Kukkiwon Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Kukkiwon, the world headquarters of Taekwondo, was created in 1972 in order to
revitalize and globalize Taekwondo as the leading martial art form;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1973, Kukkiwon laid the groundwork that launched Taekwondo as an
international art by holding the world's first Taekwondo championship and
establishing the World Taekwondo Federation; and
WHEREAS,
in 1978, Kukkiwon committed to the unity and the growth of Taekwondo by
integrating ten separate Taekwondo Kwans, namely the Chung Do Kwan, Moo Duk
Kwan, Jido Kwan, Song Moo Kwan, Chang Moo Kwan, Kang Duk Won Kwan, Jung Do Kwan,
Oh Do Kwan, Han Moo Kwan, and Kwan li Kwan; and
WHEREAS,
Kukkiwon continues to actively promote the martial art by conducting overseas
tours for Poomsae training, international seminars, and the World Taekwondo
Leaders Forum for academic interchanges; and
WHEREAS,
Kukkiwon has helped in the process of registering Taekwondo as an official sport
in the Olympics and maintaining its status as a true Olympic sport by increasing
the number of Taekwondo practitioners; and
WHEREAS,
Kukkiwon conducts the World Taekwondo Hanmadang every year, a venue for
Taekwondo players to come together and learn from each other in further
developing the art; and
WHEREAS,
there are hundreds of Taekwondo academies in Georgia and thousands of Georgians
are learning Taekwondo.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that October 1, 2011, is hereby
recognized as Kukkiwon Day at the state capitol in honor of its tremendous
accomplishments in Georgia and around the world.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Kukkiwon
headquarters in Seoul, Korea.
