RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Buckhead Coalition; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the latest initiative of the Buckhead Coalition has been to campaign for
passenger vehicular use of compressed natural gas (CNG); and
WHEREAS,
the Buckhead Coalition is eager for compressed natural gas fueling service to be
available to CNG equipped vehicles in the Buckhead community; and
WHEREAS,
the Buckhead Coalition is offering a $10,000 incentive grant to the developer of
the first CNG station in Buckhead; and
WHEREAS,
the grant supports a common goal of advancing the development of a CNG
infrastructure; and
WHEREAS,
the Buckhead community is 28 square miles with a population of 78,000, which
doubles in the daytime; and
WHEREAS,
Buckhead is the geographical center of the ten-county region defined by the
Atlanta Regional Commission; and
WHEREAS,
Atlanta Gas Light has initiated a state-wide CNG Infrastructure Program which
will provide $11.7 million from the Universal Service Fund to assist in the
development of CNG stations; and
WHEREAS,
the advancement of the natural gas vehicle market is beneficial as it promotes
the use of a fuel that is domestically abundant, environmentally friendly, and
economically affordable; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of the
Buckhead Coalition be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Buckhead Coalition for its initiative to better the community by campaigning
for passenger vehicular use of compressed natural gas.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Buckhead Coalition.
