A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Gena L. Evans; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Gena L. Evans has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative service in state government; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Evans earned a bachelor's degree and a doctorate in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Mrs. Evans successfully completed the requirements of the Georgia Leadership Institute Executive Program and was appointed to serve as the State Property officer by Governor Perdue, heading the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission, the Georgia Building Authority, and the State Properties Commission; and

WHEREAS, in December 2007, Mrs. Evans was selected as the first female Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation by the State Board of Transportation, where she managed a state agency with nearly 6,000 employees, administered a $2.1 billion operating budget, and served on the MARTA Board of Directors, the State Depository Board, and the State Claims Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Evans currently serves as the Executive Director for Georgia's State Road and Tollway Authority; and

WHEREAS, a published author and renowned speaker on transportation and construction topics, Mrs. Evans has been honored with the Governor's Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a 2007 Governor's Award for Customer Service, and the National Association of State Facilities Administrators 2007 Innovations Award; and

WHEREAS, her leadership and achievements have been recognized by Georgia Tech's Alumni magazine and by Georgia Trend magazine as one of Georgia's 40 Under 40 and 100 Most Influential Georgians of 2008; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mrs. Gena L. Evans for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Gena L. Evans.
