HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
DECLARING APRIL as CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH.
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect continue to pose serious threats to our nation's children; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, an estimated 674,000 children suffered and 1,720 died nationally from abuse and neglect; and
WHEREAS, nearly four thousand cases of suspected child abuse are reported in Hawaii every year; and
WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America has declared April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month; and
WHEREAS, in April, Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii will lead the State's participation in the Blue Ribbon Project, a display of blue ribbons to increase public awareness and foster public conversation about child abuse and neglect; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect are community problems, requiring community solutions; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature hereby declares April as Child Abuse Prevention Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the people of Hawaii are encouraged to work together to support child abuse prevention activities and services during the month of April and throughout the year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Human Services, Director of Health, and Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii.
