HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
designating the Koʻolau kupuna council as an advisory resource to the elected members of the hawaii State legislature representing the koʻolau community.
WHEREAS, from time immemorial, kupuna have held respected and revered positions within Hawaii's households, families, and communities; and
WHEREAS, today, kupuna play an essential role in advising on appropriate actions that enable smooth and efficient relationships among members of households, families, businesses, and the community; and
WHEREAS, the Koʻolau community recently formed the Koʻolau Kupuna Council, comprised of kupuna who are sixty years of age or older and are long-time residents of Eastside Oahu and Hawaiian cultural practitioners who possess historical and cultural knowledge about the Koolau region and community; and
WHEREAS, it is of great significance to the Koʻolau community for the Koʻolau Kupuna Council to meet with elected officials representing the Koʻolau community on a regular basis to provide, in the spirit of aloha and with humility, input on various issues that are of importance to the Koʻolau community; and
WHEREAS, formal recognition of the Koʻolau Kupuna Council as an advisory resource to elected members of the Hawaii State Legislature who represent the Koʻolau community is imperative to enable the Council to share its wisdom and advice on matters of importance to the Koʻolau community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the Senate concurring, that the Koʻolau Kupuna Council is designated by the Hawaii State Legislature as an advisory resource to its elected members representing the Koʻolau community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that elected members of the Hawaii State Legislature representing the Koʻolau community are requested to meet with the Koʻolau Kupuna Council and any of its subsequent chapters on a regular basis to receive input on various issues that are of importance to the Koʻolau community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to Chairperson of the Koʻolau Kupuna Council.
