HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the united states congress to designate the facility of the united states postal service located at 330 Saratoga Road in Honolulu, Hawaii as the Don Ho Post Office Building.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, legendary Hawaiian entertainer Donald Tai Loy Ho, more commonly known as Don Ho, passed away on April 14, 2007; and

 

     WHEREAS, known internationally, Don Ho was a headline  entertainer in Waikiki on the island of Oahu for more than forty-three years and made numerous appearances in film and television; and

 

     WHEREAS, after athletic success in high school and college, Don Ho joined the Air Force and became a fighter pilot, flying transport planes between Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and Tokyo; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2001, Don Ho was the first Hawaiian artist to receive a Record Industry Association of America-certified "gold" record for sales of more than 500,000 copies of his album, Don Ho's Greatest Hits; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2006, the City and County of Honolulu honored him with a proclamation for his contributions to the State's music industry and named him one of the major contributors to Hawaii's tourism industry; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the Senate concurring, that in recognition of the contributions made by Don Ho to the people of Hawaii and the world, the United States Congress is respectfully requested to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 330 Saratoga Road in Honolulu, Hawaii, as the "Don Ho Post Office Building"; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Congress is requested to provide that any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the facility of the United States Postal Service at 330 Saratoga Road in Honolulu, Hawaii shall be deemed to be a reference to the "Don Ho Post Office Building"; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, members of Hawaii's congressional delegation, the United States Postmaster General, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the United States Postal Service, the United States Postmaster of the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 330 Saratoga Road, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mr. Dwight Ho, who in turn is requested to transmit copies to other members of the family of the late Don Ho.
