HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING KNDI RADIO, ITS PRESIDENT AND PROGRAM HOSTS FOR EMPOWERING THE IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY THROUGH THE STATION'S UNIQUE ETHNIC PROGRAMMING.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, KNDI Radio (KNDI) is celebrating 50 years of reaching out to the immigrant community of Hawaii through its progressive multicultural programming which is offered in 15 languages; and

 

     WHEREAS, KNDI has made it its commitment to give ethnic communities in the state a voice and opportunity to participate in the larger society, serving as an essential link between people with limited English language proficiency and the rest of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, KNDI's president and General Manager Leona Jona, herself an immigrant from Budapest, Hungary, has shown such fervor, faith, and dedication in building the station into an icon that has become known as "Voices around the World" and recently designated as a Civil Defense Station for the State of Hawaii ; and

 

     WHEREAS, program host Magdalena Domingo has uplifted the Filipino community by serving as a radical advocate for its advancement for the past 50 years through her program "Saniata Variety Hour," and has received many awards over the years, including the prestigious Lifetime Distinguished Award from the Oahu Filipino Community Council; and

 

     WHEREAS, newscaster Flor Martinez, in his program dubbed "Mr. Parbangon," has reached out to the Filipino community and raised its level of awareness and involvement through witty reporting of pertinent news and information; and
     WHEREAS, program host Byrne Munoz has positively impacted the lives of Filipinos as a community leader and as someone to whom everybody listens when he speaks, through his programs "Linabag ti Napalabas" and "Fun-O-Rama"; and

 

     WHEREAS, program host Venus Florido Viloria has made the program "Lovingly Yours, Ate Vi" a source of change, inspiration, information, and awareness for fellow Filipinos through discussion of important topics such as news and politics, lifestyle, and health, among other things; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby honors, commends, and congratulates Leona Jona, Magdalena Domingo, Flor Martinez, Byrne Munoz, and Venus Florido Viloria for their individual and corporate impact and influence on the ethnic and immigrant communities in the State of Hawaii through KNDI Radio, and for their self-sacrifice and passion to empower their fellow people.
