HOUSE RESOLUTION
Requesting the Department of Transportation to Perform a Feasibility Study on the Installation of a Traffic Light at the Intersection of Omaopio Road and Kula Highway as a Means to Improve Public Safety.
WHEREAS, Kula Highway is a critical artery used by residents and visitors on the island of Maui; and
WHEREAS, Kula Highway is the primary motor vehicle thoroughfare connecting Kahului with Pukalani, Kula, and Keokea; and
WHEREAS, crowded highways and speeding drivers can contribute to traffic accidents and injuries; and
WHEREAS, the safety of commuters driving along Kula Highway is of great concern; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, that the Department of Transportation is requested to perform a feasibility study on the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Omaopio Road and Kula Highway as a means to improve public safety; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is requested to submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the Regular Session of 2019; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation and
the Mayor of the County of Maui.
