HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

commemorating the 50th anniversary of morihei ueshiba's visit to Hawaii.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Aikido Celebration 2011 is an organization composed of Aikido dojo and students throughout the State of Hawaii and mainland USA and is dedicated to the public celebration of the 50th anniversary of the inaugural visit made to Hawaii by Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, the Founder of Aikido; and

 

     WHEREAS, "Aiki" is a complex Japanese martial arts principle where a practitioner blends their energy with their opponent's and then redirects the force of the attack with minimal effort and harm rather than opposing the attack directly and forcibly, once applied effectively, it becomes the path or "do" for extending love and compassion especially to those who seek to harm, and through the practice of Aikido, the practitioner seeks a peaceful solution to conflict and ultimately victory; and

 

     WHEREAS, in February 1961, MORIHEI UESHIBA, made his first and only trip to Hawaii to bridge different countries of the world together through the harmony and love contained in Aikido philosophy and training, and to bless various Dojo on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, MORIHEI UESHIBA's lineal descendant and grandson, Moriteru Ueshiba will honorably preside and participate in the Aikido Celebration 2011 which observes and commemorates his grandfather's commitment to world peace by utilizing the martial principles and virtues of Aiki; and

 

     WHEREAS, it is the desire of current Aikido practitioners to posthumously honor those who have selflessly devoted their time and energy in ensuring that the martial art of Aikido be perpetuated to benefit humankind; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that this body hereby encourages the Aikido Celebration 2011 to further promote the goodwill and fellowship among the Aikido practitioners in Hawaii and throughout the world.
