A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

relating to the hawaii EMPLOYER-union health benefits trust fund.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 87A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§87A-    Rules; dependent-beneficiaries; military deployment.  The board shall adopt rules, without regard to chapter 91, that provide for the extension of health benefits coverage for a dependent-beneficiary unmarried child past the age of twenty-four; provided that:

     (1)  The dependent-beneficiary was a member of a reserve component of the United States armed forces and was ordered to active duty in federal service while the dependant-beneficiary was a full-time student under the age of twenty-four; and

     (2)  Health benefits coverage shall be extended for not less than the length of the period of time that the dependent-beneficiary was not covered by health coverage provided by the United States Department of Defense following deployment, but not more than the length of the period of time of the deployment that took place during the period of health benefits eligibility through the employer-union health benefits trust fund prior to the dependent-beneficiary's twenty-fourth birthday."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
