SENATE RESOLUTION
Requesting the department of education to review the FEASIBILITY OF CONTINUING the lahainaluna high school boarding program.
WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School is a public school located on the Island of Maui; and
WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School serves approximately one thousand students; and
WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School has a boarding program that serves approximately forty-three students; and
WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School's boarding program operates at no cost to students; and
WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School is the only Hawaii public school with a boarding program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that the Department of Education is requested to review the feasibility of continuing the Lahainaluna High School boarding program; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education is requested to provide a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2016 on its findings and recommendations, including a discussion on the benefits and costs of the Lahainaluna High School boarding program and proposed legislation, as applicable; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Education.
