SENATE RESOLUTION
requesting the Board of education to consolidate its Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area administrative office and support services facilities and use THESE existing locations to generate income for construction, repair, retrofitting, and maintenance of school facilities.
WHEREAS, facilities maintenance and sustainability are two major funding issues facing public schools; and
WHEREAS, the infrastructure of the twenty-first century school must be energy efficient and provide access to the latest technology to prepare students to succeed in a highly competitive economy; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Education's Central Oahu District consists of the Aiea-Moanalua-Radford and Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Areas; and
WHEREAS, the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area administrative office is located in Mapunapuna and its support services are spread across the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area; and
WHEREAS, these facilities and lands have the potential to be utilized to generate revenue; and
WHEREAS, the State owns property identified as tax map key number 7-4-004:070 on California Avenue in Wahiawa, where the Wahiawa Public Library is currently located; and
WHEREAS, the consolidation of all services related to the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area to the property identified by tax map key number 7-4-004:070 will create a central location that provides improved access to services and programming offered through a single Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area Office; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that the Board of Education is requested to consolidate the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area administrative office and support services facilities into a single facility in Wahiawa at the property identified by tax map key number 7-4-004:070; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this facility house the consolidated Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area administrative office and support services facilities as well as the Wahiawa Public Library, currently located on the property, and the Storefront Program; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education is requested to consider Act 155, Session Laws of Hawaii 2013, and other channels to facilitate the construction of the new facility; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education is requested to seek opportunities to generate revenue from the land that was previously used by the Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area administrative office and support services facilities, and to deposit such revenue into the school facilities subaccount for the purposes of construction, repair, retrofitting, and maintenance of school facilities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Education.
