SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO INSTALL THREE RAISED CROSSWALKS ON PAPIPI ROAD.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, pedestrian safety, especially the safety of children, should be a priority for the State and the counties; and

 

     WHEREAS, motor vehicles, including city buses, have been speeding on Papipi Road in Ewa Beach, on the island of Oahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, a number of motor vehicles have collided with children and students on Papipi Road; and

 

     WHEREAS, raised pedestrian crosswalks, which are designed to slow down motor vehicle traffic, can be an effective tool to prevent collisions with pedestrians; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2020, that the City and County of Honolulu is urged to install three raised crosswalks on Papipi Road, beginning from Kapolei Parkway to Fort Weaver Road; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that city officials are urged to seek input from the Ewa Neighborhood Board and local residents regarding appropriate locations of the raised crosswalks; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Chair of the Honolulu City Council, Director of the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services, Director of the Honolulu Department of Design and Construction, and Chair of the Ewa Neighborhood Board.
