  1  1    Section 1.  Section 91A.5A, subsection 1, Code 2016, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    1.  An employer shall provide each employee who is a an
  1  4 eligible veteran, as defined in section 35.1, with holiday
  1  5 time off for Veterans Day, November 11, if the employee would
  1  6 otherwise be required to work on that day, as provided in this
  1  7 section.  For purposes of this section, "eligible veteran" means
  1  8 a veteran, as defined in section 35.1, and a former member of
  1  9 the reserve forces of the United States who served at least
  1 10 four years in the reserve forces and who was discharged under
  1 11 honorable conditions.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 14 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 15    This bill provides that a former member of the United
  1 16 States reserve forces who served at least four years and who
  1 17 was discharged under honorable conditions is eligible to take
  1 18 holiday time off for Veterans Day as provided in Code section
  1 19 91A.5A.
