37,
paragraph
c,

2023,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

c.
An
individual
shall
be
deemed
“temporarily
unemployed”
3
if
for
a
period,
verified
by
the
department,
not
to
exceed
4
four
consecutive
weeks,
the
individual
is
unemployed
due
5
to
a
plant
shutdown,
vacation,
inventory,
lack
of
work,
or
6
emergency
from
the
individual’s
regular
job
or
trade
in
which
7
the
individual
worked
full-time
and
will
again
work
full-time,
8
if
the
individual’s
employment,
although
temporarily
suspended,
9
has
not
been
terminated.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
12
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
strikes
a
requirement
that
a
period
of
temporary
14
unemployment,
for
purposes
of
eligibility
for
unemployment
15
benefits,
cannot
exceed
four
weeks.
An
individual
who
is
16
temporarily
unemployed
is
exempt
from
registering
for
work
at
17
an
employment
office
and
from
being
able
to
work,
available
for
18
work,
and
earnestly
and
actively
seeking
work
in
order
to
be
19
eligible
for
unemployment
benefits.
