144.26,
subsection
3,
Code
Supplement

2011,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

3.
a.
The
county
in
which
a
dead
body
is
found
is
the
3
county
of
death.
If
death
occurs
in
a
moving
conveyance,
4
the
county
in
which
the
dead
body
is
first
removed
from
the
5
conveyance
is
the
county
of
death.

b.
If
a
decedent
died
outside
of
the
county
of
the
7
decedent’s
residence,
the
state
registrar
shall
send
a
copy
8
of
the
decedent’s
death
certificate
and
any
amendments
to
the
9
county
registrar
of
the
county
of
the
decedent’s
residence.
10
The
county
registrar
shall
record
a
death
certificate
received
11
pursuant
to
this
paragraph
in
the
same
records
in
which
the
12
death
certificate
of
a
decedent
who
died
within
the
county
13
is
recorded.
The
state
registrar
may
provide
the
county
14
registrars
with
electronic
access
to
vital
records
in
lieu
of
15
the
requirements
of
this
paragraph.

EXPLANATION
17
This
bill
relates
to
the
transmission
and
recording
of
18
certain
death
certificates.
19
The
bill
requires
that
when
a
person
dies
outside
of
the
20
county
of
the
person’s
residence
the
state
registrar
shall
21
send
a
copy
of
the
person’s
death
certificate
to
the
county
22
registrar
for
the
county
of
the
person’s
residence.
The
bill
23
provides
that,
in
lieu
of
this
requirement,
the
state
registrar
24
may
provide
county
registrars
with
electronic
access
to
vital
25
records.
The
bill
also
requires
that
a
county
registrar
shall
26
record
such
a
death
certificate
in
the
same
records
in
which
27
deaths
occurring
in
the
county
are
recorded.
