S.F. 2028 Section 1. Section 441.8, Code 2024, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 9. Notwithstanding a budget previously 3 established pursuant to section 441.16, if an assessor is 4 appointed to fill a vacancy, the conference board may establish 5 a salary for the newly appointed assessor in an amount the 6 conference board determines to be reasonable. 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 In the event of the removal, resignation, death, or removal 11 from the county of an assessor, the conference board with 12 jurisdiction over the assessor’s position must fill the vacancy 13 by appointing an assessor to serve the previous assessor’s 14 unexpired term. Each year, the salary for the person holding 15 the position of assessor is set in a budget approved by the 16 conference board. 17 This bill allows the conference board to establish a salary 18 for an assessor that has been appointed to fill a vacancy in 19 an amount the conference board determines to be reasonable, 20 even if the amount is different from the salary approved in the 21 conference board’s approved budget. 22 -1- LSB 5547XS (1) 90 dg/jh 1/ 1
