honoring
Caitlin
Clark

achievements

University

Hawkeyes
women’s
basketball
team
and
coaching

staff
for
their
outstanding
performance.

WHEREAS,
in
her
freshman
season,
Caitlin
Clark
led
5
the
NCAA
Division
I
in
scoring
and
earned
All-American
6
honors;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Caitlin
Clark
improved
to
such
an
extent
8
in
her
sophomore
year
that
she
became
the
first
NCAA
9
women’s
basketball
player
to
lead
the
NCAA
Division
I
10
in
both
points
and
assists;
and
11
WHEREAS,
during
Caitlin
Clark’s
junior
year,
she
12
led
the
University
of
Iowa
Hawkeyes
women’s
basketball
13
team
to
the
national
championship
game
in
spectacular
14
fashion,
and
ended
the
season
winning
all
major
15
national
player
of
the
year
awards;
and

WHEREAS,
on
February
15,
2024,
in
a
game
against

the
University
of
Michigan
Wolverines,
Caitlin
Clark

scored
a
program
record
49
points
and
broke
the
NCAA

Division
I
women’s
basketball
record
for
most
career

Woodard
to
become

the
all-time
leading
scorer
in
major
women’s
college

basketball
history,
broke
the
record
for
the
most

three-point
field
goals
made
in
a
single
NCAA
season,

and
became
the
first
Big
10
women’s
player
to
record

more
than
500
three-point
field
goals
in
a
career;
and

WHEREAS,
on
March
3,
2024,
during
a
93-83
victory

against
the
Ohio
State
Buckeyes,
Caitlin
Clark
broke

the
all-time
NCAA
scoring
record
held
since
1970
by
13
Pete
Maravich
and
now
has
a
total
of
3,685
points
and
14
counting;
and
15
WHEREAS,
it
is
through
teamwork
of
the
University
16
of
Iowa
Hawkeyes
women’s
basketball
team
and
the
17
superlative
coaching
staff
led
by
Coach
Lisa
Bluder
18
that
these
accomplishments
are
possible;
and

WHEREAS,
the
University
of
Iowa
Hawkeyes
women’s
20
basketball
program
has
served
as
an
inspiration
to
21
people
nationwide,
has
elevated
and
grown
women’s
22
basketball,
and
has
brought
honor
to
the
state
of
23
Iowa;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
honors
25
Caitlin
Clark
for
her
outstanding
athletic
achievements
26
and
looks
forward
to
seeing
Caitlin
progress
as
one
27
of
the
most
remarkable,
hard-working,
and
talented
28
basketball
players
of
all
time;
and
29
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Senate
honors
the
