S.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 35.4 Veterans preference —— 1 employment applications —— civil penalty. 2 1. To encourage granting a preference as permitted by 3 section 35.3, a private employer that requires completion of 4 an application form prior to employment shall include on the 5 application form an inquiry into the applicant’s status as a 6 veteran. 7 2. Any employer who violates the provisions of this section 8 shall be subject to a civil penalty of not more than five 9 hundred dollars. 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill requires each private employer in this state that 14 requires completion of an application form for employment to 15 include on the form an inquiry into the applicant’s status as 16 a veteran.
