1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1695
| ||||||
2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1695 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Legislative Commission Reorganization Act | ||||||
5 | of 1984 is amended by adding Section 8A-60 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (25 ILCS 130/8A-60 new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 8A-60. State historic site. | ||||||
8 | (a) The Architect of the Capitol shall apply to the | ||||||
9 | Department of Natural Resources under the provisions of Section | ||||||
10 | 1 of the Historical Sites Listing Act to have the State Capitol | ||||||
11 | Building listed as a State historic site with respect to its | ||||||
12 | location as the site of the vote to make Illinois the first | ||||||
13 | state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the United States | ||||||
14 | Constitution on June 10, 1919. | ||||||
15 | (b) The Architect of the Capitol, in cooperation with the | ||||||
16 | Secretary of State and the Department of Natural Resources, |

1 | shall place and maintain a historical marker at a suitable | ||||||
2 | location on the grounds of the State Capitol Building. The | ||||||
3 | marker shall commemorate and memorialize: (1) the role of | ||||||
4 | Illinois women in initiating the achievement of nationwide | ||||||
5 | voting equality within the United States of America; and (2) | ||||||
6 | the position of Illinois as the first state to ratify the 19th | ||||||
7 | Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legal document | ||||||
8 | that guaranteed votes for women without discrimination on | ||||||
9 | account of sex. | ||||||
10 | (c) Moneys from the Capitol Restoration Trust Fund may be | ||||||
11 | used to place and maintain the historical marker.

12 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
13 | becoming law.".
