2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Horse Meat Act is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 1 as follows:
|
6 | | (225 ILCS 635/1) (from Ch. 56 1/2, par. 240)

7 | | Sec. 1.
In this Act, unless the
the context or subject |
8 | | matter otherwise
requires: |
9 | | (1) "Horse Meat" means the flesh of any animal of the |
10 | | equine family.
|
11 | | (2) "Slaughterer" means any person engaged in killing |
12 | | animals of the
equine family where the carcasses are butchered |
13 | | for any purpose other than
that of manufacturing tankage.
|
14 | | (3) "Wholesale Distributor" means any person not licensed |
15 | | as a
slaughterer who is engaged in the business of securing |
16 | | horse meat from a
slaughterer, distributor or any other person |
17 | | and distributing it to any
retailer, stock or pet ranch, or |
18 | | place where food is served for consumption
on the premises.

19 | | (4) "Package" means any closed and sealed container which |
20 | | is sold as an
unopened unit to the purchaser.
|
21 | | (5) "Bulk meat" means whole carcass, half carcass or |
22 | | quarter carcass.
|
23 | | (6) "Director" means the Director of Agriculture.
