SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
40 ILCS 5/1-170 new

Amends the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that a person may not participate in any pension fund or retirement system under the Code with respect to an elected position to which the person was first elected or appointed on or after the effective date of the amendatory Act. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by adding
5Section 1-170 as follows:
6 (40 ILCS 5/1-170 new)
7 Sec. 1-170. Participation by elected officials;
8prohibited. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code to
9the contrary, a person may not participate in any pension fund
10or retirement system under this Code with respect to an elected
11position to which the person was first elected or appointed on
12or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 101st
13General Assembly.
14 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15becoming law.
