 Amends various acts relating to the governance of public universities and community college districts in Illinois. Requires public universities and community colleges to not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or general election, as established by the Election Code. Allows public universities and community colleges to remain open for other purposes.

1 AN ACT concerning education.


2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3represented in the General Assembly:



4 Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by 
5adding Section 100 as follows:

6 (110 ILCS 305/100 new)
7 Sec. 100. Election days. The University shall not hold any 
8classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, 
9as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this 
10Section, the University may remain open for other purposes.

11 Section 10. The Southern Illinois University Management 
12Act is amended by adding Section 85 as follows:

13 (110 ILCS 520/85 new)
14 Sec. 85. Election days. The University shall not hold any 
15classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, 
16as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this 
17Section, the University may remain open for other purposes.

18 Section 15. The Chicago State University Law is amended by 
19adding Section 5-195 as follows:

13 Section 50. The Public Community College Act is amended by 
14adding Section 3-29.11 as follows:

16 Sec. 3-29.11. Election days. A community college shall not 
17hold any classes on the day of a general primary or a general 
18election, as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding 
19this Section, a community college may remain open for other 
20purposes.
