Bill Title: Amends the Election Code. Provides that, if a political subdivision that is choosing candidates or submitting a public question is located within the jurisdiction of 2 or more election authorities and has its principal office located in the territorial jurisdiction of a city board of election commissioners, then the election authority in which a majority of the territory of the city board of election commissioners is located shall have jurisdiction, and the city board of election commissioners shall not have jurisdiction.

1 | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section | |||||||||||||||||||
5 | 1-8 as follows:

6 | (10 ILCS 5/1-8) | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 1-8. Canvassing boards abolished. Notwithstanding
any | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | other provision of this Code, local canvassing boards are
| |||||||||||||||||||
9 | abolished. In this Code or any other law a reference to a
local | |||||||||||||||||||
10 | or county canvassing board means (i) for elections in
which the | |||||||||||||||||||
11 | political subdivision that is choosing
candidates or | |||||||||||||||||||
12 | submitting a public question is located
entirely within the | |||||||||||||||||||
13 | jurisdiction of a single election
authority, that election | |||||||||||||||||||
14 | authority and (ii) for elections for offices and public | |||||||||||||||||||
15 | questions not listed in Section 22-1 of this Code in
which the | |||||||||||||||||||
16 | political subdivision that is choosing candidates
or | |||||||||||||||||||
17 | submitting a public question is located within the
jurisdiction | |||||||||||||||||||
18 | of 2 or more election authorities, the election
authority | |||||||||||||||||||
19 | having jurisdiction over the location at which the
political | |||||||||||||||||||
20 | subdivision has its principal office ; however if a political | |||||||||||||||||||
21 | subdivision that is choosing candidates or submitting a public | |||||||||||||||||||
22 | question is located within the jurisdiction of 2 or more | |||||||||||||||||||
