Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall conduct a study and prepare a report on the feasibility and installation, every 20 miles, of signs that span the width of each interstate highway and display safety messages in brief, bold designs. Provides that the Department shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by December 31, 2021.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
|
5 | | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding |
6 | | Section 2705-620 as follows:
|

8 | | Sec. 2705-620. Safety sign study. The Department shall |
9 | | conduct a study and prepare a report on the feasibility and |
10 | | installation, every 20 miles, of signs that span the width of |
11 | | each interstate highway and display safety messages in brief, |
12 | | bold designs. The messages shall include those determined by |
13 | | the Department to be appropriate for educating the public about |
14 | | laws pertaining to safe driving, including, but not limited to, |
15 | | laws regarding the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, |
16 | | a disabled vehicle, or a highway construction or maintenance |
17 | | zone, and laws regarding driving on the right, overtaking on |
18 | | the left, and merging. The Department shall submit a report of |
19 | | its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by |
20 | | December 31, 2021. This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.
