HOUSE RESOLUTION



2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kent
McCanless on being 
4selected as the 2019 Illinois Emergency Services Management 
5Association (IESMA) Emergency Manager of the Year and commend 
6him for his distinguished service as
the director of the 
7Woodford County Emergency Management Agency and to the

8residents of the State of Illinois; and


9 WHEREAS, Since 2014, Kent McCanless has served as the first 
10full-time director of the Woodford
County Emergency Management 
11Agency; he is dedicated to
educating, training, and preparing 
12Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) volunteers and 
13residents to better prepare the State of Illinois to respond in 
14the event of disaster; and

15 WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has a distinguished history of 
16public service; he served as a storm spotter for the Eureka 
17Emergency Services and Disaster Agency,
as both a volunteer and 
18career firefighter, as an EMT, and as a fire and life safety

19teacher; and


20 WHEREAS, Kent McCanless is active with the Care Tracking 
21Service, an
invaluable service dedicated to keeping those who 
22suffer from Alzheimer's disease
and dementia safe, active, and

1independent for as long as possible; and


2 WHEREAS, Kent McCanless works alongside area schools, 
3nursing homes, and
several community groups to improve 
4evacuation procedures, further assisting
citizens of the State 
5of Illinois; and

6 WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has extensive training as a first 
7responder and
experience in numerous natural disasters, 
8including the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina; and



9 WHEREAS, Kent McCanless was presented his 2019 Illinois 
10Emergency Manager of the Year award by IESMA President Dawn 
11Cook; therefore, be it


12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
13HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
14we congratulate Kent
McCanless on being selected as the 2019 
15Illinois Emergency Services Management Association Emergency 
16Manager of the Year, and we commend him for his distinguished 
17service as
the director of the Woodford County Emergency 
18Management Agency and to the
residents of the State of 
19Illinois; and be it further


20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
