HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease
3of the central nervous system, affecting nearly one million
4people in the United States alone; and
5 WHEREAS, MS generally strikes people in the prime of life,
6between ages 20 through 50; the cause and course of the often
7debilitating symptoms of MS remain unknown, and no cure
8currently exists; and
9 WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is
10committed to a world free of MS and is working to heighten
11public knowledge about and insight into the disease; and
12 WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has
13transformed what it means to live with MS and has provided
14global leadership to help achieve its vision of a world free of
15MS; and
16 WHEREAS, Since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis
17Society has been a driving force of MS research, relentlessly
18pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure, and has invested
19more than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and
20 WHEREAS, Funds raised through the National Multiple

1Sclerosis Society fuel research on pathways to MS cures and
2invest in the MS research workforce at the best medical
3centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the
4U.S. and abroad, leading to many breakthroughs in the
5treatment of MS; and
6 WHEREAS, The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis
7Society is to cure MS while empowering people affected by MS to
8live their best lives and is an effort that all Americans and
9Illinoisans should support; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we declare March 10-16, 2024 as "MS Awareness Week" in the
13State of Illinois and encourage all Illinoisans to learn more
14about multiple sclerosis and what they can do to support
15individuals with MS and their families; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That we recognize the importance of finding the
17cause and cure of MS and express our appreciation for the
18dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has
19shown toward creating a world free of MS; and be it further
