2 | WHEREAS, Superman's origin is one of the best-known | ||||||
3 | stories in comic book history; and

4 | WHEREAS, Superman's date of birth has been a matter of | ||||||
5 | debate over his career as a crime fighter; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, February 29 was ordained as Clark Kent's birthday | ||||||
7 | in a 1976 edition of DC Comics' Super Calendar", which also | ||||||
8 | listed a number of historic occasions and established | ||||||
9 | birthdays for numerous other characters, including Lois Lane; | ||||||
10 | and

11 | WHEREAS, DC Comics' initial reasoning for establishing | ||||||
12 | Superman's birthday on leap day was because the day only | ||||||
13 | appears every four years, which could explain why Superman is | ||||||
14 | still "young" after appearing in comics for generations; and

15 | WHEREAS, Superman's ties to Illinois include the town of | ||||||
16 | Metropolis in Southern Illinois, which was proclaimed as the | ||||||
17 | "Hometown of Superman" by the Illinois House of | ||||||
18 | Representatives on June 9, 1972; and
