Bill Title: Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Creates the offense of unlawful transfer or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the Internet. Provides that a person commits the offense when he or she knowingly transfers or purchases firearm ammunition online via the Internet. Provides that this prohibition does not apply to the transfer of firearm ammunition to, or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the Internet by, peace officers or members of the Armed Services or Reserve Forces of the United States or the Illinois National Guard or the Reserve Officers Training Corps, when that firearm ammunition is for use in firearms used by those persons in the performance of their official duties. Provides that a violation is a Class 4 felony.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

4 | Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by by | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | adding Section 24-3.10 as follows:

7 | Sec. 24-3.10. Unlawful transfer or purchase of firearm | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

9 | (a) For purposes of this Section, "Internet" and "online | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | have the meanings ascribed to them in Section 16-0.1 of this | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | Code. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
12 | (b) A person commits unlawful transfer or purchase of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | firearm ammunition online via the Internet when he or she | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
14 | knowingly transfers or purchases firearm ammunition online via | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | the Internet. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
16 | (c) This Section does not apply to the transfer of firearm | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | ammunition to, or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
