Bill Title: Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Creates the offense of unlawful transfer or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the Internet. Provides that a person commits the offense when he or she knowingly transfers or purchases firearm ammunition online via the Internet. Provides that this prohibition does not apply to the transfer of firearm ammunition to, or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the Internet by, peace officers or members of the Armed Services or Reserve Forces of the United States or the Illinois National Guard or the Reserve Officers Training Corps, when that firearm ammunition is for use in firearms used by those persons in the performance of their official duties. Provides that a violation is a Class 4 felony.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
720 ILCS 5/24-3.10 new

2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by by
5adding Section 24-3.10 as follows:
6 (720 ILCS 5/24-3.10 new)
7 Sec. 24-3.10. Unlawful transfer or purchase of firearm
8ammunition online via the Internet.
9 (a) For purposes of this Section, "Internet" and "online
10have the meanings ascribed to them in Section 16-0.1 of this
11Code.
12 (b) A person commits unlawful transfer or purchase of
13firearm ammunition online via the Internet when he or she
14knowingly transfers or purchases firearm ammunition online via
15the Internet.
16 (c) This Section does not apply to the transfer of firearm
17ammunition to, or purchase of firearm ammunition online via the
18Internet by, peace officers or members of the Armed Services or
19Reserve Forces of the United States or the Illinois National
20Guard or the Reserve Officers Training Corps, when that firearm
21ammunition is for use in firearms used by those persons in the
22performance of their official duties.
