| 1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 16.08b as follows:
|
| 6 | | (70 ILCS 705/16.08b) |
| 7 | | Sec. 16.08b. Emergency medical technician licensure; |
| 8 | | training. |
| 9 | | (a) The board of trustees of a fire protection district |
| 10 | | may require that all firefighters hired on or after January 1, |
| 11 | | 2005 (the effective date of Public Act 93-952) by any fire |
| 12 | | department within the district to must be licensed as an EMT, |
| 13 | | EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic under the Emergency Medical |
| 14 | | Services (EMS) Systems Act.

| 15 | | (b) The board of trustees of a fire protection district |
| 16 | | must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly, |
| 17 | | reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I, |
| 18 | | A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the |
| 19 | | fire protection district, including the training expenses of a |
| 20 | | firefighter required to be licensed as an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT, |
| 21 | | or paramedic under subsection (a). |
