1 AN ACT concerning regulation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Nurse Practice Act is amended by changing
5 Section 55-30 as follows:
6 (225 ILCS 65/55-30)
7 (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2018)
8 Sec. 55-30. LPN scope of practice.
9 (a) Practice as a licensed practical nurse means a scope of
10 basic nursing practice, with or without compensation, as
11 delegated by a registered professional nurse or an advanced
12 practice nurse or as directed by a physician assistant,
13 physician, dentist, or podiatrist, and and includes, but is not
14 limited to, all of the following:
15 (1) Collecting data and collaborating in the
16 assessment of the health status of a patient.
17 (2) Collaborating in the development and modification
18 of the registered professional nurse's or advanced
19 practice nurse's comprehensive nursing plan of care for all
20 types of patients.
21 (3) Implementing aspects of the plan of care as
22 delegated.
23 (4) Participating in health teaching and counseling to

1 promote, attain, and maintain the optimum health level of
2 patients, as delegated.
3 (5) Serving as an advocate for the patient by
4 communicating and collaborating with other health service
5 personnel, as delegated.
6 (6) Participating in the evaluation of patient
7 responses to interventions.
8 (7) Communicating and collaborating with other health
9 care professionals as delegated.
10 (8) Providing input into the development of policies
11 and procedures to support patient safety.
