Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the oath of office for each prospective holder of a State office shall include an affirmation to protect and honor the diversity of the people of Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

5 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be |
6 | | submitted to the electors of the State for adoption or |
7 | | rejection at the general election next occurring at least 6 |
8 | | months after the adoption of this resolution a proposition to |
9 | | amend Section 3 of Article XIII of the Illinois Constitution |

14 | | SECTION 3. OATH OR AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE
|
15 | | Each prospective holder of a State office or other State |
16 | | position
created by this Constitution, before taking office, |
17 | | shall take and
subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:

18 | | "I do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support the |
19 | | Constitution of
the United States, and the Constitution of the |
20 | | State of Illinois, and protect and honor the diversity of the |
21 | | people of this great State as provided in the Illinois Human |
22 | | Rights Act, and
that I will faithfully discharge the duties of |
23 | | the office of .... to the
best of my ability."
